Thank you for stopping by little island studios, please subscribe by email to follow along in family fun.

I am nominating Robyn O'Brien for Yahoo's Women Who Shine campaign.

Robyn O'Brien is mother of four, founder of Allergy Kids and author of "The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food Is Making Us Sick and What We Can Do About It".

Her work is seen in Food, Inc. filmmaker Robert Kenner’s 2012 video, Labels Matter, and with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. Robyn O'Brien believes that every single man, woman and child in our country - without exception - should have access to healthy and safe food. Our country is at it's knees with the current food system and health crisis. Cancer, autism, ADHD and allergies are at an all-time high, with food at the source of it. Robyn works at the front lines to get food additives labeled to bring awareness for what is really going on.

She is the founder of the visionary organization www.allergykidsfoundation.org which is focused on restoring the integrity of the food supply and the health of the American children who have earned the title of "Generation Rx" due to the sudden, increasing rates of conditions and diseases like allergies, autism, asthma, diabetes and cancer. Robyn's work has been widely viewed around the world, as a popular TEDx speaker.

She serves on the Board of Directors of Healthy Child Healthy World and is on the board of the Just Label It Campaign, an organization that is working toward labeling of foods that have been genetically engineered to withstand increasing doses of chemicals in our food supply.

Robyn began her journey, when her fourth child had a severe allergy to breakfast one morning. Before that she really had not given too much thought into what she ate or gave her children. Since then Robyn has uncovered the unhealthy truth about our food system. Everyday in this country alone 43 children are diagnosed with Cancer. Everyday! Whether we choose to believe it or not; Cancer is an epidemic in our country. The new French study on GMO causing Cancer emphasizes Robyn's message, as she has been urging precaution, in light of scant long-term toxicity research, in an effort to protect the health of our families, our country and our economy.

And she firmly believes that while we can't change the beginning of our stories, we can change the end. And hope is the knowledge that change is possible, even when it seems hard to imagine. If Robyn wins, her award proceeds will go towards creating greater awareness of ways that all of us can protect the health of our loved ones and bring this awareness to a wider audience.

It is going to take concerned moms to change things, it is going to take moms to make a difference, to inspire each other to create the changes we want to see in the health of our families and food system. We will fight for our children and their health and Robyn is just the mom to lead us.
Did you know?

In the United States, we allow ingredients into our food supply until they are proven dangerous. In other developed countries, substances are not allowed into the food supply until they are proven safe--a precautionary measure that puts additional burdens on corporations in the form of testing requirements and extensive research and development. This precautionary principal protects consumers, not profits. - Robyn O'Brien

"I believe that in the absence of the truth, all of us stand helpless to defend ourselves, our families and our health, which is the greatest gift we have. You don't have to be a doctor or a scientist to look into whether our food supply is safe, and Robyn O'Brien's courageous pursuit of THE UNHEALTHY TRUTH is an example of how we can all do our parts to protect the health of our families." -Erin Brockovich

"Robyn O'Brien's message describes the toxic tangle of American food, government, and culture. THE UNHEALTHY TRUTH is a healthy dose of medicine that we all need to swallow, and I say this as an advocate for the environment, but more importantly, as a father of five." —Graydon Carter, Editor-in-chief, Vanity Fair

There is a popular saying - "What you don't know won't hurt you". I think for years most people use this as their motto when it comes to what they eat. "Hey, it's here at the popular food market, it must be "approved" and safe". This just is not the case. When it comes to food, what you do not know, is hurting you.  How many children must get sick before we wake-up and challenge the accepted "wisdom" that is being handed to us?  What will it take for you to get involved?  My advice?  As a mom, don't wait for your "boat to rock"...start paddling now.  Your children's health most certainly depends on it.
