Mini Donuts: 100 Bite-Sized Donut Recipes to Sweeten Your "Hole" Day Giveaway!

Thank you for stopping by little island studios, please subscribe by email to follow along in family fun!

If you follow little island studios on Pinterest,  you'll know that I have a huge donut obsession right now.  I have had not any in years, simply because the ones in the stores are so full of chemicals and additives that I refuse to buy them.  I have totally missed out though, as they are so easy to make!  Using your own ingredients I have no idea why I didn't make them sooner and why more people do not make their own.

Mini Donuts: 100 Bite-Sized Donut Recipes to Sweeten Your "Hole" Day, by Jessica Segarra is the must-have book to start your donut making adventures!  The recipes are easy with ingredients you most likely have handy in your kitchen.   There are easy to follow instructions for a mini-donut maker or a donut pan.  I use a Wilton donut pan I got from the market. (less than 10 dollars)

This was my first attempt at donuts before I got the Mini Donuts book.  And while yes, they are pretty, the recipe I used was not something to be desired and the donuts had to be thrown out.  Even my teen was not amused (don't teens eat anything?).

My first recipe from Jessica's book was perfection!  I made the Buttermilk Donuts with Chocolate Ganache Icing.
And as you can see from the icing on little ones face, these donuts were a huge hit - add a glass of organic milk and you have bliss!

This recipe for Confetti Cake Mini Donuts would be absolutely
perfect for Valentine's Day!

Confetti Cake Mini Donuts

Yields 30 Mini Donuts

For Donuts
11⁄3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup whole milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2.5 ounces multicolored sprinkles

For Icing
1 tablespoon whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups powdered sugar

These donuts scream party . . . at least they would if donuts could talk. From the outside, you can see little specks of color, but the big surprise is on the inside. Brightly colored explosions fill each bite, making these mini donuts the perfect birthday breakfast!

  1. If using an electric donut maker, preheat according to manufacturer’s instructions. If using donut pans, preheat oven to 350°F and grease donut pans.
  2. In a small bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg and sugar. Then add milk, oil, and vanilla extract, mixing until thoroughly combined. Gently stir in the flour mixture and the sprinkles, stirring until there are no lumps.
  4. If using mini-donut pans: Carefully fill each donut indentation ¾ full. Bake for 7–9 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean. Transfer donuts to a cooling rack and cool completely. If using an electric mini-donut maker: Carefully fill each donut indentation ¾ full. 5. Place wax paper under a wire rack to collect any drippings for an easy cleanup. Then, in a small bowl, whisk together milk and vanilla extract. Add powdered sugar, whisking until smooth.
  6. Dip the top of each donut into the icing, transfer to a wire rack, and let set for 5 minutes. Serve immediately; donuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days but are best served fresh.

With every flavor from chocolate, pumpkin, gingerbread and banana to candy themed donuts, you are sure to find the perfect recipe for your family.
